The 57 most popular Hindi-Urdu songs of 1986

A note about the credits

There are doubts about the singers and lyricists who contributed to the film Mard, with different authorities giving different names. The end credits of the film confirm that Rajinder Krishan wrote at least one song and that Sharon Prabhakar sang at least one song. In the song Sun Ruby-a we can hear the voice of Mr Bachchan and Sharon Prabhakar’s English. Shabbir Kumar and S. Janaki were the main singers. The remaining voices have been listed on the authority of Prof. Bhargava.

Rare songs

The song Zindagi kay paas hum from the film Hum Naujawan has been included on the exclusive authority of Prof. Anil Bhargava, with no additional verifications, despite several Google, HindiGeetMala and YouTube searches. All three types of searches only yielded Ek pal pyar ka kabhi de badal ye zindagi sung by Asha Bhosle.

Songs with a classical background

Raags in songs

Few film songs that have a root in Indian classical music remain faithful to a raag throughout their length. Indpaedia volunteers have sometimes mentioned raags even when there is merely a hint of that raag in a song. (‘Raag’ is frequently spelt ‘raga,’ while ‘taal’ is also spelt ‘tal.’)

Wherever a taal has been mentioned, it is the one verified by ChandraKantha.com, and sometimes the raags, too.
