Shwedaung Town, 1908

Head-quarters of the subdivision of the same name in Prome District, Lower Burma, situated in 18 42' N. and 95 13' E., on the Rangoon-Prome road, 8 miles due south of Prome town. Population (1901), 10,787. Shwedaung is adminis- tered by a town committee constituted in 1882, The income of the town fund in 1903-4 was Rs. 24,000 and the expenditure Rs. 29,000, There is a hospital in the town with 24 beds. A considerable amount of silk is manufactured, almost every house in the town having its loom.
