Tahsil of Multan District, Punjab, lying be- tween 29 22' and 30 i' N. and 71 2' and 71 31' E., with an area of 680 square miles. The Chenab bounds it on its longest (north-west) border. Above the Chenab lowlands, which are subject to periodical inundation from the river, is a high-lying tract of Bar country mainly unirrigated. The surface of the country slopes away towards the junction of the Sutlej and the Chenab in the south-west corner. The population in 1901 was 124,907, compared with 114,714 in 1891. It contains the towns of SHUJABAD (population, 5,880), the head-quarters, and JALALPUR (5,149); and 148 villages. The land revenue and cesses in 1903-4 amounted to 3.2 lakhs.
