The Mahamastakabhiseka is a sacred, auspicious Jain festival held once in every 12 years in veneration of Gommateswara, or Bhagavan Bahubali. Over 40 lakh visitors from around the world, Jain leaders, acharyas, swamis, and devotees, are expected to attend the consecration festival. The rituals, which begins with the Pancha Kalyana Mahotsava, is in five stages that signifies the five phases in the life of Bahubali, who renounced his kingdom and attained nirvana. Hundreds of tyagis, who have come from different parts of the country, will hold the rituals.

As part of the grand event, an exclusive art festival — called the Shravanabelagola Art Festival —is held. The art festival is organised by the Shravanabelagola Math and with the blessings of Swasti Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji — the presiding spiritual head of Shravanabelagola and showcases the history and heritage of Shravanabelagola in a contemporary and modern style.
