Parab

16th – 18th November

PARAB.png

Set amidst cloud-kissing hills and green meadows lies Koraput district, the tribal hinterland of Odisha. More than half of the tribal population of Odisha is based in the vegetation covered hills and jungles in and around Koraput. There are still many indigenous tribes of Odisha, which lead a secluded and archaic life deep inside the jungles, far from mainstream civilization. Held as an annual event in the heavenly abode of Koraput, the homeland of tribes, Parab gives an occasion to celebrate the charm of Odisha’s ethnic culture. Various cultural events including essay & debate competitions, seminars, book fair, quiz shows, boat races, art exhibitions, poetry competitions, folk music and dance are among the major attractions of Parab. All these cultural programmes and competitions are conducted at gram panchayat, block and district levels. A thematic punch “Parab of Swachchhata” (Festival of Cleanliness) added a layer to the occasion.
