Mittal was born in Chugge village, near Bathinda, on October 24, 1935, and finished his schooling there, before moving to Chandigarh to study law from Panjab University. “ There was no looking back for Mittal after his first film `Ma Da Ladla' in 1971-72,“ said P D Goyal, his junior in school who is now the president of the DAV College managing committee.

Mittal acted in over a 100 films, including `Chann Pardesi', `Lambardarni', `Walayati Babu', `Putt Jattan Da' and `Qurbani Jatt Di'. He also produced `Ambe Maa Jagdambe Maa' (1980) and `Walayati Babu' (1981)“.

Veteran Punjabi actor and Dadasaheb Phalke award winner, Mehar Mittal, passed away at a hospital in Rajasthan's Mount Abu region in 2016. He was famous for his comic roles.
