 The technique of Kundalini awakening

Among various methods of awake energy ning the dormant kundalini, `shaktipat' or transmission of , says Swami Muktananda Paramhansa, is the easiest, safest and most potent method that, over a period of time, bestows upon the seeker the priceless gift of Self-realisation. Shaktipat is a spiritual technique through which the master “injects“ in the astral body of the seeker a current of psychic power or a dose of astral fluid. This can be effected by the master either through look, touch, word or simply thought.

At the time of shaktipat, some bad karmas of the seeker “attack“ the master and as a result the latter's body begins to ache severely and the top of his head becomes hot. The reason why the master takes upon himself the seeker's karma is that he wants to ensure that the seeker is able to withstand the powerful currents generated by the awake ned kundalini. Such masters, who are blessed with the power to bestow grace through shaktipat, are hard to come by .

In his magnum opus entitled, `The Play of Consciousness', Swami Muktananda describes his experience of receiving shaktipat-initiation from his master, Bhagwan Nityananda, in the following words: “As he looked into my eyes, I saw brilliant rays of light emana ting from his pupils, and going right inside me. Its brilliance dazzled my eyes like a highpowered bulb. I stood there, stunned, and my body was completely motionless.“

The conspicuous feature of shaktipat is that it not only helps the seeker in meditating deeply but also enables him to excel in his profession and other areas of worldly life. The seeker's health improves substantially , his memory gets sharpened, and he is blessed with the capacity to work at high efficiency and output levels. After having received shaktipat the seeker should constantly endeavour to nurture and develop the shakti given by the master. The seeker can sit in meditation on a regular basis, preferably in early morning hours, for at least 30 minutes and steadfastly follow the principles of `yama' morality and `niyama' discipline.

Adhering to the principles of nonviolence and truth, avoiding covetousness at all costs, doing good to others, performing one's duty with utmost sincerity , all constitute `yama'.Leading a highly disciplined life, avoiding negative company , total abstinence from alcohol and tobacco, and non-vegetarian food, and devotion to the Almighty , are some elements of `niyama'.

When the dormant kundalini is ignited through shaktipat, prana, the life-force moves through the sushumna, the central nadi, in the base chakra, at lightning speed; in the process the seeker experiences electric-like currents in the body. The fire of yoga then begins to blaze spontaneously within the seeker, purifying him at all levels and paving the way for his evolution to the highest level of consciousness. As the seeker's awareness gets stabilised in the upper spaces of sahasrara, the crown chakra, in deep meditation, he begins to listen to the celestial music that fills him with rapture.

Finally , the seeker is blessed by the beatific vision when, to his utter amazement, he sees a tiny blue pearl within the sahasrara that begins to expand infinitely , encompassing the entire universe. His ego then gets completely dissolved in the Divine Effulgence and all his past karmas are burnt in the fire of Atma-jnana, Self-knowledge.Realisation then dawns upon the seeker that the entire universe is nothing but a blissful sport of Consciousness.

The Eternal Psychotherapist

Pulkit Sharma

In recent times there has been wide I concern that more and more people are suffering from psychological disorders. More and more people are finding their life to be meaningless, are scared of people around them, feel intense sadness and hopelessness, suffer from anxiety and extreme mood swings, are bombarded with distressing thoughts and impulses, experience threat from lack of self-control and addictions and feel alone and disconnected.

Mind is root cause

Although there are several types of psychological disorders and within each disorder there are numerous symptoms and manifestations, the root cause remains the mind. The existing medical and psychological models of cure have been found to have limited efficacy in providing a permanent solution. Either the treatment brings no relief, or the relief is short-lived, or when one problem ends another one sprouts up. While the mind looks very real to us, in totality it is only an impression. All of us are born with potential truthconsciousness that can realise itself and unite with the Supreme Consciousness if it follows the correct path. But this rarely happens because, from the beginning we are bombarded with wishes, impulses, concepts and conditions.

The mind assumes an identity and usurps our consciousness, making us suffer infinitely. When the mind itself is a problem the solution cannot come by analysing, controlling or changing the mind. One would need to retreat back to the original potential truthconsciousness and restart the journey in a different direction.

Cosmic energy

Kundalini is the cosmic energy that lies dormant in each one of us. On the basis of his phenomenal spiritual experiences, Siddheshwar Baba explained that under the influence of the mind, the dormant Kundalini in each one of us assumes the form of scattered energy working at the service of the mind. It gets trapped in drives, illusions, misrepresentation and creates profound psychological suffering because its goal is not the whim and fancy of mind but the Cosmic Consciousness. When the individual realises this and makes an effort to concentrate on Cosmic Cons ciousness, this scattered energy liberates and changes its course.

When Kundalini gets activated it moves upward to unite and merge with Cosmic Consciousness. In its journey , this coiled serpent power destroys all falsehood, illusion, patterns of identity and negativity , uplifting the mortal individual into divinity . The end result described by those who e this journey is eternal bliss, complete this journey is eternal bliss, but the expedition is fraught with all kinds of difficulties because the process shakes the basic foundations of the self so that false identity can be replaced by truth-consciousness.

Golden opportunity

Ultimately , each psychological disorder therefore is nothing but a golden opportunity to be liberated and uplifted into perpetual bliss. The function of any psychological disorder is to constantly remind us that we are grounded in falsehood and need to move towards truth. Kundalini is the eternal psychotherapist working in the service of the Divine to remove all chaos and establish the Supreme Truth in each individual.

Kundalini gets activated and finishes its journey only when there is Divine Grace. Hence, it is crucial that we should crave for, surrender to and put in efforts to invite Grace. We often look for therapists and masters in the outer world but seldom recognise the omnipotent healer within us, waiting to be at our service. And when everything happens as per the original plan, there is eternal healing.
