Khairpur Town , Punjab

Head-quarters of the tahsil of the same name in Bahawalpur State, Punjab, situated in 29 degree 35' N. and 72 degree 18' E., 38 miles north-east of Bahawalpur town on the Southern Punjab Rail- way. Population (1901), 5,013. It is a decaying town, as the sand from the desert of Cholistan has for years been encroaching on it, but contains a school and a dispensary. The municipality had an income in 1903 4 of Rs. 6,200, chiefly from octroi.
