A comparison of major Indian states across 10 socio-economic parameters doesn’t quite bear out the notion that Jammu & Kashmir has remained backward because of Article 370. In health and gender indicators, as also in poverty, the state is among the country’s best or just a notch below the best. In economic parameters like per capita gross state domestic product (GSDP) it is better than states like Bihar and UP. The only parameter in which the state is among the country’s bottom five is the average annual growth in GSDP for five years from 2011-12 to 2016-17.
