2018: musk-scented perfume from pine needles

October 5, 2018: The Times of India

A new technique to make musk-scented perfume from pine needles has been developed by Dehradunbased Forest Research Institute. Scientists said that the new technique was a breakthrough as the perfume would be developed from naturally occurring wax in pine needles.

Vineet Kumar, head of chemistry and bioprospecting division, FRI, said, “Muskscented perfumes use musk derived from a synthetic molecule. But for the first time, a biomass (pine needles) would be used to extract musk, thereby producing a completely organic product.”
