Youngest To Win National Gold In Senior, Junior & Youth Categories

Showing great composure for a 13-year-old, Esha Singh produced a stunning display to outshine her more illustrious competitors and emerged triumphant in the women’s 10m air pistol event in the sixth medal round of the 62nd National Shooting Championhips here on Saturday. Esha added two more gold medals by winning in junior and youth categories too.

The Telangana shooter’s maturity belied her age. She kept a cool head as the lead changed hands during the final round in an intimidating field, that included World, Commonwealth gold medallist Manu Bhaker of Haryana, multi-medallist in WC and Heena Sidhu (ONGC) among others.

Esha bested all of them with a score of 241.0 to pick her first-ever individual gold medal while reigning champion Manu (238.9) and Shweta (217.2) went home with silver and bronze.

The eighth standard student of Bolton School in Secunderabad, Esha had 16 10s in the entire 24 shots.

“I don’t want to be just another Olympian. I want to win a medal for my country. My next target is to be in the national senior squad,” said an excited Esha. Olympic medalist Gagan Narang is all praise for his trainee.
