College Profile

IP College For Women

The college owes its existence to the IP Girls’ School (1904) which was started with the “challenge’’ of bringing girls out of the purdahand into the classroom. It made a hopeful beginning in Chhipwara area of old Delhi in a very small building, close to Jama Masjid. In 1924, DU recognised the school, which had by then started intermediate classes to become a college. In the 1950s, the young girls of the college dug out a swimming pool for themselves and was the first college on the campus to have a pool. Now, even men are allowed to take a dip here during the summer vacation. It’s one of the few colleges to conduct bachelor courses in mass communication and journalism.
