Windows XP Home Edition doesn't support IIS

1. You will need to place your Windows XP Pro CD into the PC.

2. Go to Get a handle on Panel, Add Eliminate Plans, then Add/Remove Windows Components. In the Windows Components window, place a check always mark

beside Internet Information Services (IIS), then click next, then click end.

3. Throughout installation, Windows creates an index at C:inetpubwwwroot and places several files there. You will see your home page of your

Browser by typing or (where COMPUTER_NAME is the real name of one's computer) into the

address bar of any web browser. If you havent located any files in C:inetpubwwwroot, you should see some basic IIS data in the internet

Visitor at this address.

4. Your web server is currently working. The system for IIS is found in Control Panel > Administration Tools (if you use Classic View; under

Performance and Maintenance or even).

The next steps are for adding a new virtual directory.

5. To incorporate a fresh virtual directory, start the IIS management console (step 4), click the plus signs on the left before you see Default Web

Site, then right-click about it and select New > Virtual Directory.

6. The Virtual Directory Creation Wizard is currently on the screen. Click Next on the first screen. Type an Alias for your website. This will be

the name you'll sort after to view your internet site ( example: ). Click Next.

7. So you must enter the directory path. Click Browse and search to the correct file location for the new websites documents. This

location will most likely be C:inetpubwwwrootALIAS. Click next.

8. On the last screen security information will be seen by you. If you are not focused on implementing security, check most of the boxes. If you

want to run ASP texts, choose the first two. Press next.

9. Your virtual directory is set up. You will see it by writing in to the internet explorer address bar.
