Basmat Taluk

Eastern taluk of Parbhani District, Hyderabad State, with an area of 610 square miles.Including jagirs, the popula- tion in 1901 was 79,569, compared with 117,344 in 1891, the decrease being due to the famine of 1900. The taluk contains one town, Basmat (population, 8,445), the head-quarters; and 215 villages, of which 21 are Jagir. The land revenue in 1901 was 3.2 lakhs. The country is composed mainly of black cotton soil.
