Basantpur

Head-quarters of the Araria subdivision of Purnea District, Bengal, situated in 26° 18' N. and 87° 33’ E., on the right bank of the Panar river. Population (1901), 2,792. Basantpur is 4 miles west of Araria village, which gives its name to the subdivision, and it contains the usual subdivisional offices ; the sub-jail has accom- modation for 17 prisoners.
