Barul

Village in the Asansol subdivision of Burdwan District, Bengal, situated in 23° 44' N. and 87° 7' E. Population (1901), 532. It lies in the middle of the iron-ore tract and has given its name to the surrounding iron-ore field. The total amount of ore extracted in 1900 was 57,000 tons, or nearly three times the quantity obtained ten years previously.
