Barsoi

Village in the head-quarters subdivision of Purnea District, Bengal, situated in 25° 38' N. and 87° 53' E., on the east bank of the Mahananda. Population (1901), 3,101. It is a railway junction on the Eastern Bengal State Railwa)', from which a branch runs to Kishanganj. It has one of the largest weekly markets in the District, the chief articles of trade being dried fish, tortoises, giir, country-made cloth, chillies, turmeric, onions, jute, and mustard. Gunny-bags and mats of local manufacture are also largely sold.
