Anand Mahindra

He has brought freshness into entrepreneurship. A man with varied interests-from filmmaking to music to car racing-he interacts directly with his 1.46 million Twitter followers.

He is looking to be a big player in defence and is searching for a partner to make guns, ships, tanks and jets, even as PM Modi raised the FDI cap in defence to 49 per cent.

The Mahindra empire has grown close to a Rs.1 lakh crore behemoth, from just Rs.8,100 crore a decade ago, expanding beyond automotive to aerospace, IT and hospitality. In October, he acquired French company Peugeot Scooters, the oldest surviving brand of scooters in the world.

Life in the fastlane

He was in Beijing in September when Mahindra Racing entered the Formula E championships for electric-powered vehicles. Also played a key role in backing and promoting the Pro-Kabaddi league.

Staying in shape

He is a fitness freak who used to play tennis, he now does a combination of yoga, running and weight training.

His '5 s'mantra

Space: You can't innovate unless you pause and reflect.

Self-indulgent creativity: Get away from what you are meant to do.

Simplicity: That is essential to build something relevant.

Sans: Pretend you have few resources, then do things.

Sustained experimentation.

Means > ends

"I have always said that more than big-bang reforms, what matters is what is happening, what is changing on the ground every day. It is processes that are important."
