The 162-year-old Alfred High School in Rajkot in Saurashtra where Mahatma Gandhi studied for seven years. It is expected to be a major tourist attraction in addition to Kaba Gandhi no Delo, Gandhiji's residence in the city The school has never been promoted as a tourist spot. It was from 1880 to 1887 that Gandhiji studied here and completed his matriculation here. “The building's architecture is beautiful and in good shape but needs to be preserved. Converting the place into a museum will also attract more tourists and help maintain the legacy of Gandhiji,“ said municipal commissioner Vijay Nehra. A major portion of the school was lying unused and its condition was deteriorating by the day. “Some portion of the building requires immediate attention,“ he added. Currently, there are around 100 students from class IX to class XII studying in the school.
