This healthy snack also helps you avoid frequent undesirable munching which can give rise to hypertension, among other unhealthy repercussions.

Ingredients

Broken wheat ( dalia): 2 cups Onions (chopped): 1 medium-sized Green chillies: 1-2 Ginger (Grated): 1 teaspoon Green peas: ½ cup Carrots (diced): ½ cup Mustard seeds:1 tsp Oil:2 1/2 tsp Chopped coriander for garnish

Method

Clean and wash the broken wheat thoroughly. Drain and keep aside. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker. Add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the onions, green chilli and ginger and saute till the onions turn translucent. Add the green peas, carrots, broken wheat and salt and saute for 3- 4 minutes. Add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 1 whistle. Garnish with the coriander and serve hot.

Broken Wheat Upma Recipe

Ingredients

¼ cup broken wheat 1 onion 1 green chilli ¼ cup green peas ¼ cup carrots ¼ cup paneer 2 tbsp coriander 1 tbsp oil and salt to taste

Method

Chop onions, green chilli, grate paneer and cut carrots in cubes. Clean, wash and blanch broken wheat in 2 cups of water for about 5 mins. Drain it! Heat oil in pressure cooker, add onions and green chilli, saute till light brown. Add peas, carrots, broken wheat and salt, saute for about 5 mins. Add 1 ½ cups of water and pressure cook for 1 whistle. Garnish with coriander and grated paneer. Serve hot.

Ingredients

Tiny pieces of whole wheat bread (5 slices of bread are enough to fill a bowl) Chopped green chillies

1 chopped onion 1 chopped tomato ½ tablespoon of ginger 8 to 10 curry leaves 2 tablespoon of oil ½ tablespoon of mustard seeds ½ tablespoon of cumin powder 1/4th tablespoon of hing (asafoetida) Chopped coriander to garnish

Method

1. Heat your oil in the pan and let mustard seeds and cumin seeds sizzle in piping hot oil. 2. Once settled, add chopped onions, green chillies and curry leaves. Stir fry them nicely. 3. Now add chopped tomatoes to it and cook it thoroughly for 5 minutes or so. 4. Now throw in the bread pieces. Cook only for a minute or two as you wouldn't want your bread to turn very soft. 5. Serve right away!

Ingredients

Oats: 100 gms Mustard seeds: ½ tsp Cumin seeds: ½ tsp Red chillies (whole): two Urad dal: ½ tsp Chana dal: ½ tsp Curry leaves -3-4 in number Oil: 1-2 tsp Salt to taste

Method

Heat oil in a non-stick kadhai and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Break red chillies and add it to the mustard and cumin seeds in the oil followed by urad dal and chana dal. Add the curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds begin to crackle and the aroma of urad and chana is imminent add 150-200 ml of water. Add salt to taste. Bring the entire thing to boil and then add oats while stirring. Allow it to cook for 5 minutes.
