Nibir Shabnam was Miss North East in 2009
The judge had asked, 'Who is the poorest in this world?'
Shabnam famously replied, 'One who does not dream, one who does not love, is, alas, the poorest!'
This answer won Nibir Shabnam the Miss Amway of North East crown

Hometown: Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district
With the support of her mother and Nandini, a glossy women-oriented Assamese magazine, Shabnam became Miss North East.
Her mentor has been Maini Mahanta, editor of Nandini, who was one of the judges at the contest.
In 2001 Nibir got a portfolio made and sent it to Nandini, which published the photographs.
Conservative rural Assam was scandalised by the hints of skin in the photographs. However, her mother stood by her.
In 2003, Nibir joined the Assam School of Drama, Guwahati but did not complete the course.
She then hosted a TV show and was a ramp model.
For Femina Miss India 2006 Nibir was chosen from Assam and was to travel to Paris for the Grooming Round. However, she did not possess a passport then.
She then appeared on Doordarshan and in music videos.
Thereafter, Nibir set up a book publishing house.
