This is a patchwork of articles selected for the excellence of their content.
You can help by plugging gaps in the information given below, especially about
the years before and after these beauty queens won their crowns, because
photographs and biographical details might not be available for that period.
All contributions will be acknowledged.

Readers can also send text and photographs about regional/ diaspora/ college
beauty contests. (Example Miss Wokha, Miss Tokhu). Obviously, readers will not
send any text or photograph that lowers the dignity of South Asia's beauty
queens. Readers can send additional information, corrections, and photographs to the

Naina Balsaver

Miss India 1976: According to one source, Naina Balsaver was the only Miss India who represented in both contests Miss Universe and Miss World. This is unlikely and not corroborated by any other source. In any case, she was withdrawn from the Miss World contest apparently on Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi's advice over the issue of two South African participants. She gained a lot of publicity for the act, and 30 countries followed India's example in protesting against apartheid. Naina married politician Akbar Ahmed and even contested in the Indian parliamentary elections. She is currently busy with her dream project: A wildlife reserve.

Naina has been devoting her energies towards jewelry designing.

Nafisa Ali

1976 India’s representative for Miss International, selected by Eve’s Weekly Nafisa Ali 2nd Runner-up at Miss International This information is from Miss India contests: History, backed by miss-india-world-universe. Nafisa Ali seems to have won two crowns in the same year
