Spelling of the film's title

Missed Diwali 2013
Kochadaiiyaan was scheduled to be released on Diwali 2013. So was Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2. There were apprehensions about a clash between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, and their harming each other’s prospects. It was rumoured that Kamal Haasan even considered releasing Vishwaroopam 2 a month ahead of schedule, to avoid a clash. Fortunately for him, Kochadaiyaan got delayed by several months, and his Vishwaroopam 2 went on to be a major hit.
This pathbreaking 3D animation film, which was India's first photorealistic performance capture film, was finally released on May 23, 2014. For lovers of commercial cinema it was a gripping, tightly edited experience, with AR Rahman's music binding the film together. The film received mixed reviews.

Kochadaiiyaan at the box office
Budget: (Rs) 125 crore
The film was released on about 3000 screens in six languages (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi-Urdu, Bengali, Marathi, Punjabi). Its Telugu version Vikramasimha was released on 700 screens in AP and Telangana, which greatly exceeded the 450 screens on which the Tamil version was released in Tamil Nadu.
In Tamil Nadu theatre occupancy was 95% in the first weekend. Tickets were sold in advance for the first five days, creating a box office record for a Tamil film. After that collections dipped suddenly, leading to talk of the film being a flop. Unfortunately, the Hindi-Urdu version went unnoticed in North India. The Telugu version saw around 50% of the seats filled.
However, on the whole the film did quite well .
1st weekend: Between Rs 42 crore Filmi Beat and Rs 44 crore BoxOfficeTotal. Against this, the Rs. 70 crore figure calculated from filmcircle is not credible.

Malaysia : Rs 92.45 lakh
UK & Ireland : Rs 78.31 lakh
Australia : Rs64.73 lakh

1st five days: Kochadaiiyaan was the fastest Tamil film to earn Rs50 crore 2014, breaking the records of the Vijay starrer Jilla and Ajith Kumar's Veeram. The film’s combined collection in all languages reached Rs 51 crore by the end of its fifth day, Tuesday May 27, 2014. However, collections started dipping after that.
