Gauhati varsity election: Aasu, NSUI rout ABVP

All Assam Students’ Union-backed candidates won six posts, including the key ones of president and general secretary, while NSUI, the student wing of Congress, won five of the 15 posts in the Post-Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) election at Gauhati University (GU) .

AGP’s student wing, Assam Chatra Parishad (ACP), which contested for the first time, won three. However, R S S-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which had won four seats last time, including the post of general secretary, drew a blank this year. “The win is significant because Gauhati University is considered a stronghold of Aasu, which had steered the Assam agitation and led the anti-CAA protest in 2019,” a GU student said.
