Faakhir’s Award

Dawn

Although Faakhir’s concerts in Pakistan and abroad have been on the rise, he seems to be the missing link in the music scene these days. Fortunately, the rehabilitation time has not kept him away from what he does best, and that is the art of music making. And while the singer is busy working on his new album these days, his previous album’s success has given him coveted recognition.

Recently, he was awarded the President’s Award for Pride of Performance for his contribution towards the contemporary Pakistani music scene. A veteran in the field, Faakhir has been known for his different compositions and songs ranging from romantic ballads to patriotic anthems in his previous two albums, Aatish (2002) and Mantra (2005). According to the singer, the acknowledgement will boost his sincerity towards making better music a notch or two ahead of the rest and supports the idea of recognizing out-of-the-ordinary work.

And the award is well deserved too, for a record of more than 0.6 million CD sales for Mantra in the country alone. Since Faakhir is adding another memento to his showcase, we wonder how other artistes will take react to his success. — Tahir Yahya
