Career in Filmistan

Based on her standing as a top rung model Bipasha’s debut film 'Ajnabee' (2001), too, was A list.

Ajnabee hinted at wife-swapping [see poster on this page], with Bipasha playing the wife willing to be swapped. Her role in Jism as an adulterous wife brought the film’s producers good profits but relegated her to sex-oriented roles. Her main contribution to Dhoom 2, her biggest budget film and the highest grosser of her career, was her bikini act as the second lead.

Her films 'Raaz' and 'Jism' were middle-budget but very successful, especially considering their budgets. Jism established Bipasha as someone willing to do ‘bad girl’ roles. ‘Bad girl’ roles are a kiss of death for actresses aspiring to the top bracket in Filmistan. Bipasha was no exception.

That was where her career got stuck: as the main lead of naughty, middle-budget films and one of two or three female leads in blockbusters ('Dhoom 2') and major commercial films ('No Entry', 'Phir Hera Pheri').

Bipasha won the Filmfare Best Debut award in 2001 for "Ajnabee".
