Who regulates the colleges?

SC: The Council of Architecture, not AICTE

AmitAnand Choudhary, Nov 19, 2019: The Times of India

The Supreme Court has held that institutions of architecture should be under the control of Council of Architecture (CoA) and not All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), settling the turf war between the two regulatory bodies.

Both the regulatory bodies were constituted by Parliamentary legislations and granted powers to approve or recognise and thereafter monitor working of institutions related to architecture. CoA was constituted in 1972 under Architects Act and AICTE was set up 15 years later under All India Council of Technical Education Act to regulate technical education in the country. The two bodies remained locked in a legal fight as definition of technical education under the AICTE Act also included architecture.
