Wins 10M Air Rifle Gold With Score Of 211.2 In Sweden

Shooter ApurviChandela, who had won gold in the National Shooting Championships in Delhi in December 2015 took her good form into the new year by winning the gold medal in the 10m air rifle event in the Swedish Cup Grand Prix in Savsjoon Tuesdayin Jan 206.

In the process, Apurvi shot a `world record' score in the final. She shot 211.2 in the final, surpassing China's Yi Siling's `official' 211. The Jaipur girl shot better than Siling's `official' score, but her score will not be ratified as an official record, because records establish ed only at continental meets, ISSF World Cups, World Championships World Cup Finals or the Olympic Games are considered `official' by the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF).

“The score will not be officially con sidered as a world record, as the tournament doesn't fall under the ISSF's criteria. Nonetheless, this is a big achievement for Apurvi and a testimony to her capability and mental strength,“ the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president Raninder Singh told TOI.

In the final, Apurvi shot a brilliant series of 20 shots with 10.3 as her lowest, which she shot thrice. She shot the maximum possible 10.9 twice. The maximum score a shooter can shoot in the fi nal is 218.

In the qualification round, Apurvi tallied 418.3 over 40 shots (102.8, 106.3, 105.2 and 104.0).
