He is seen as today's thinking businessman. More than just his firms, he is known for his ventures in education-starting schools for the underprivileged and assembling word-class talent for the Shiv Nadar University in Greater Noida. The university has been a trailblazer in promoting liberal arts education in India besides emerging as an influential think tank.

His company, HCL, which makes about Rs.35,000 crore annually, remains one of the foremost players on the Indian IT scene. Nadar was ranked 7th in Asia's Tech Billionaires List in 2014. His wife Kiran Nadar is an internationally renowned bridge player and an avid art collector. She started the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in Delhi in 2010.
