Karnataka: Missing gold casket found in temple waste

MYSURU: A 30-gram gold casket of Male Mahadeshwara Temple atop MM Hills in Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar, which went missing on March 18, was found along with temple waste on Thursday afternoon.

This casket is adorned to the utsava murthy of Goddess Parvathi along with the presiding deity Mahadeshawara during annual festivals.

At 3.45pm on Thursday, Sunil Kumar, an outsource staff of the temple, found the casket lying in the waste dumping area in front of the temple. At 4pm, police officers and temple authorities visited the spot. Later, the casket was handed over to the temple trust. Authorities said police would investigate the negligence which caused the episode. It went missing after the festival on March 18. The incident came to light when priests and other staff were verifying the ornaments on the night of March 18.

According to temple executive officer Jaya Vibhava Swamy, a notice was served to the priests. A complaint was also lodged with MM Hills police.
