Madras, situated in 10degree 58' N. and 77 o' E., 4 miles from Coim- &lt;br /&gt;
batore city. Population (1901), 6,568. It is the junction of the &lt;br /&gt;
Nilgiri branch of the Madras Railway with the main line, and the &lt;br /&gt;
site of considerable railway workshops. It enjoys a cool and healthy &lt;br /&gt;
climate. A sugar manufactory has recently been opened. &lt;br /&gt;
