NEW DELHI: The contribution of Norman Borlaug - who played a key role in helping India attain self-sufficiency in food production by introducing semi-dwarf, high-yield, disease-resistant wheat varieties - in India's Green Revolution is well known. Few, however, know about Pandurang Khankhoje, an Indian agricultural scientist who made the same contribution.

Part of the group of Indian revolutionaries who formed the Ghadar Party, Khankhoje's contribution was recalled by Mexico by installing his statue in the University of Chapingo, the oldest agricultural university in Latin America.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla recalled that while contributing to the prosperity of Mexican agriculture, Khankhoje brought about socio-economic change in the lives of millions of people.

Om Birla hailed Khankhoje as a true inspiration for posterity who will continue to define Mexico's journey towards development.
