''' Match-fixing not a Sec 420 offence: HC '''

Bengaluru: Match-fixing by a cricketer could lead to a feeling that he has cheated lovers of the game but it could not amount to an offence, the Karnataka high court has said, quashing proceedings against four accused in a 2019 case pertaining the Karnataka Premier League (KPL), reports Vasanth Kumar.
“Match-fixing may indicate dishonesty, indiscipline and mental corruption of a player. For this purpose, BCCI (Indian cricket board) is the authority to initiate disciplinary action,” Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar said in an order last week, adding that registration of FIR under Section 420 of IPC (cheating) is not permitted.
