'''Mysuru-born Venkat is global CEO of Barclays'''

Barclays chief executive Jes Staley abruptly stepped down after a dispute with British financial regulators on his ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in 2019. CS Venkatakrishnan, the bank’s head of global markets, will replace Staley.

Venkatakrishnan, who had worked with Staley at JPMorgan Chase & Co and was one of the latter’s first hires at Barclays, said he was taking over from his mentor “with deeply mixed emotions.” Known as Venkat, he joined Barclays as chief risk officer in 2016.

Born in Mysuru, Venkatakrishnan did his Bachelors, Masters and PhD in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was at JPMorgan for more than 20 years before joining Barclays. P 29
