WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP PRIMER

• The World Test Championship adopts a league system for Test cricket.

• It will be contested over two-year cycles and has already started, on August 1, with the opening Ashes Test at Edgbaston.

• The participating teams are Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies.

• The teams will play three series each at home and away. Each series will have a minimum of two and maximum of five Tests. All teams will not play each other.

• Abandoned matches will be treated as draws.

• If at the end of the group stage, two or more teams are level on points, the team with more series wins will take the higher spot on the table.

• If the teams still can’t be separated, runsper-wicket ratio — runs scored per wicket lost, divided by runs conceded per wicket taken — will be taken into consideration.

• The top two teams on the points table at the end of the league phase will contest the final in 2021 in the UK.

• If the final is tied or drawn, the two teams will be declared joint champions.
