The Times of India is the world’s largest-circulated English-language broadsheet with more than 50 editions, a readership of 7.6 million plus and circulation of more than 4.5 million. TOI’s website has more than 18 million unique visitors and more than 350 million page views, as per ComScore.

1838: Launched as The Bombay Times and Journal of Commerce, a bi-weekly

1850: Becomes a daily

1861: Renamed as The Times of India

1907: Newspaper price slashed from 4 annas to 1 anna. Circulation rises five-fold

1950: TOI expands footprint, Delhi edition launched

1968: Ahmedabad edition launched

1985: TOI’s NIE edition launched for schoolgoing readers

1988: TOI completes 150 eventful years

1991: BBC features TOI among world’s six great newspapers

1992: TOI introduces invitation price of Rs 1.50 in Delhi when competition was selling at twice the price

1994: Launch of Bombay Times, the newspaper’s entertainment supplement. Other city-specific supplements started subsequently and have become reader favourites

1996: TOI crosses 1 million mark in circulation. Spirituality finds space in the paper: Speaking Tree column launched

1997: Launch of timesofindia.com, the paper’s news portal

2000: Daily crosses 2 million mark in circulation

2003: The paper goes all-colour, starting with Delhi edition

2004: TOI notches 3 million circulation mark

2007: TOI acclaimed as world's largest English daily

2008: Circulation exceeds 4 million

2009: Timesofindia.com becomes the No. 1 English newspaper website in the world (by page views)

2010: Speaking Tree launched as a Sunday paper. It goes on to become India’s first spiritual social network

2012: Alive, India’s first major augmented reality smart-phone app introduced, which makes newspaper reading an interactive experience

2013: From 29 editions in 2008, TOI now has 52 editions across the country
