Pyapon Township

Township of Pyapon District, Lower Burma, lying between 15 47' and 10 2$' N. and 95 34 / and 95 47' E , with an area of 431 square miles. It is bounded on the north by the Gonnymdan river 3 on the east by the Pyapon river ; on the south by the sea; and on the west by tidal waterways which separate it from the Bogale township It is flat and typically deltaic throughout. The population increased by So pei cent, during the decade ending 1901, at the close of which period it had reached a total of 43,922, dis- tributed in one town, PYAPON (population, 5,883), the head-quarters of the District and township, and 157 villages In 1903-4 the area cultivated was 191 square miles, as compared with 56 square miles in 1891. The land revenue was Rs 3,75,000.
